A villager was fatally shot and 10 others were wounded when more than 70 villagers clashed with police in southwest China over a land dispute, the official Xinhua News Agency said Tuesday.
The villagers, armed with knives and clubs, attacked and wounded five police in Malipo county of Yunnan province, Xinhua said.
The police, using guns, batons and shields, killed one villager and wounded 10 others, it said.
Xinhua said the dispute involved illegal mining, but did not say who was carrying out the mining.
