CAPITAL DISTRICT'S JOB FUTURE LIES IN SERVICE SECTOR.(Business)

J obs should be plentiful this year and beyond for Capital District workers who don't mind working in the service sector for fewer dollars.

Economists say the Capital District can expect substantial growth in service, sales, management and clerical jobs between now and 2035. Service-sector jobs - financial, insurance, real estate, retail and wholesale trade, transportation - already account for 209,200 of the 382,100 jobs in the area.

The Capital District is following the national trend. In the past five years, about 12 million jobs have been added to the U.S. economy - the largest number coming in the service sector at the cost of the manufacturing sector which has generated less than 1 million. And, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 90 percent of all new jobs produced in the United States by 1995 will be in service industries.

The Capital District Regional Planning Commission has projected service-type jobs will hit 246,800 in the area by 1990; 268,200 by 1995; …
