Fed: Carr demands answers on second airport blackout

HOBART, Aug 1 AAP - New South Wales Premier Bob Carr today demanded a federal government
inquiry into the second major power failure at Sydney airport.

Today's failure crippled aircraft movements just weeks after another power loss knocked
out aircraft operations.

Mr Carr said the problem must be fixed before the Olympics.

"I'm very concerned," he told reporters in Hobart where he is attending the ALP conference.

"I'm drafting a letter currently to the federal minister for transport asking for a
brisk inquiry into why this happened and into what's required to give guarantees that
there won't be blackout during the Olympics."

Today's power failure caused extensive delays and stopped aircraft from taking off
for nearly an hour and a half.
